F.A.Q

F.A.Q:

What genre of game is Mytheon?

Good question. It’s actually an entirely new genre; the word thrown around seems to be MMORPGRTS (Mummorpagertz, as I imagine Yahtzee would say it). It incorporates elements of action RPG, online RPG gaming and Petroglyph’s signature Real Time Strategy.

Oooh! But how will an RPG game incorporate RTS elements?

Through items called “Power Stones”. Through the course of the game, players will assemble a collection of these. Using a power stone will activate an effect such as the creation of some form of structure, summoning a minion or bringing a spell onto the field. Of course, these things aren’t anything new…the RTS elements are the degree of control the player will have over what they summon with their stones. These Power Stones will be a central component in virtually every part of your character’s life, even outside combat.

But why are they stones now? Why not just classic spells?

They work in a slightly different function. According to Petroglyph Developer "Torpid PG", Stones bear more a resemblance to the cards in classic card-playing RPGs. You build a "Deck" of stones, which in turn is dealt into a "Hand" of stones. After using one, it's discarded and a new one enters your hand. When you run out of the stones in your deck, you can "renew" it, but that takes a while and involves standing motionless. Deck size is currently intended to be 30-40 Stones.

What kind of spell effects are we looking at here?

Some ones listed include direct damage, area buffs (and removing them), summoning creatures and structures and healing. The developers promise a wide array of spells at your fingertips, as well as new updated ones as time goes on.

And summoned creatures, what about them?

Here’s a clue- Mytheon. Your minions will be mythological creatures…from Dragons to Gorgons to Minotaurs; you bring them to life on the battlefield and have them do your bidding. Monsters can be brought in from different myths to form a truly fearsome fighting force.

Are there classes involved?

Yes; Mytheon players can opt to play as one of three classes. The distinction between them is based around which Power Stones they will be capable of using; some will only be available to certain classes whereas others will be able to be played cross-class. So one class will be geared towards stones that heal it, or do damage to enemies, or summon minions.

Does Mytheon have a central story?

Aye! From the sounds of things, the Story has no definite end and will continue on for as long as people play the game. That said, the plan is to have large amounts of content available outside the main storyline- updated goals, challenges, repeatable quests. The intention is to also make the story repeatable without restarting your character, if you so desired.

What is the central story?

At the moment, very vague. There isn’t much on the details, but the overall idea is based on the end of the reign of Gods on Earth and the start of the reign of Humans. However, in order to take their place as the masters of Earth, humanity needs to show the Gods that they’ve earned their new power…by thrashing them. You play the role of a hero, one of many assembled to show those dusty ol’ Gods who the new boss is.

What are the intentions with Player versus Player?

At the moment, the decision is to NOT have separate servers for players who wish to live in harmony (awwwww) or fight each other. Player versus Player will be voluntary and limited to restricted areas. Some mentioned features include duels and arena battles. But it’s still a bit early to be sure on this feature.

What’s the deal with Microtransactions?

Ah, yes, this is a word you’ll see bouncing around a lot on Mytheon sites. Mytheon is free to download and requires no monthly fee, and instead gets its funding through Microtransactions. Microtransactions real-money payments for players who like to fight and slay in Style. You can buy items or upgrade your character with handy features like a boost to experience earning or additional storage space; or just indulge in some kit to deck out your character with to make him look that little bit more badass. That said, if you arrive at the doorstep loaded with half the loot from your recent raid of Fort Knox hoping to get your mitts on a nuclear-sword-that-instantly-kills-any-enemy-within-fifty-metres or a helmet-of-invincibility-that-kills-anyone-who-attacks-you, then sorry but you’re gonna have to drag that cash back home. The system isn’t designed to give any player an unfair advantage; merely to make life more comfortable for players who need it (Because, let’s face it, we all know how irritating it is to be only a pick-up button away from an awesome item and have to give it up because of our inventory space).

What are the minimum system requirements?

PC
-Windows XP or Vista with DirectX 9.0c
-2.0Ghz Intel Pentium 4 (or AMD equivalent) - single core
-512Mb of system RAM on XP, 1Gb for Vista
-128Mb of video memory
